Our Story

Discover the journey that shaped the F.E.D. Foundation and its vision for the future ahead together.

From Direct Support to Systems Change

The F.E.D. Foundation began in 2019 as a small Community Interest Company created to support children whose feeding development had been overlooked.

Working directly with children, families, schools and professionals provided valuable insight into the realities faced by those navigating feeding challenges. Although needs varied between children and settings, a common pattern began to emerge. The issue was rarely a lack of commitment from individual professionals or organisations. Instead, feeding development often fell between systems, disciplines and areas of expertise.

As the organisation grew, it became increasingly clear that no single sector could solve the challenge alone.

The transition to charitable status

The transition to charitable status in 2023 as The Feeding Trust enabled the organisation to expand its reach, develop educational resources, strengthen partnerships and contribute to wider conversations about feeding development across health, education and community settings.

This work reinforced another important lesson: sustainable change depends on collaboration.

Children’s lives do not fit neatly into professional boundaries. Their experiences are shaped by families, schools, health services, communities and wider social systems. The most effective solutions emerge when these perspectives are brought together.

The 2026 evolution

Today, the Foundation’s role extends beyond supporting individual families. It is focused on building a multi-stakeholder community that brings together educators, healthcare professionals, researchers, policy makers, parents, carers and young people around a shared goal.

The Foundation believes that progress is achieved not through any single voice or profession, but through collective intelligence: combining research evidence, professional expertise and lived experience to ensure feeding development becomes recognised as a shared responsibility rather than an overlooked gap between services.

The Foundation worked with PADS to develop a parent webinar exploring feeding development and eating challenges experienced by some children with Down syndrome.

Autism West Midlands

Through workshops and learning events, families have been able to explore topics relating to feeding differences, participation and neurodevelopment.

Worcestershire Parent Carer Forum

Partnership work with Worcestershire Parent Carer Forum has provided opportunities to hear family perspectives, support local engagement activities and strengthen conversations around feeding development, SEND and inclusion.
